Hello all,

I am updating my clinic and I have been researching costs & comparing prices of clinic storage units.

I am a little confused though in the varying costs between Podiatry/clinical/medical suppliers & retail outlets.

eg. Mobilis quote prices for a 'work unit' ranging from £199.00 to £819.00 & Canonbury list similar prices. Out of interest I searched online with IKEA & found perfectly servicable, good quality units ranging from £80.00.

I recently needed to replace my lockable metal drug cabinet & again I searched the usual Podiatry suppliers in the UK. The price currently advertised for a lockable drugs cabinet in the Mobilis catalogue is £291.00. The one I actually purchased from IKEA was metal, lockable & also wall mounted was £15.00. Is mine adequate? It certainly would be no less easy to access or steal than the one from Mobilis.

Lockable, white storage units (metal) IKEA £59.00. I am considering these as a storage item in the clinic.

My question is: Are we being ripped off by our suppliers, or are the prices being charged fair & appropriate?

Interested in everyones thoughts.

My father-in-law is in private practice and has just gone over to the dark side of Ikea after many years of 'buying the proper stuff'.
He is very pleased with quality etc and we can't find any reason that the medical products are so much mare expensive.

In a former life I worked at a famous DIY store.
During stock take one of my duties was to check costing of kitchen units.
I can appreciate that companies are in the business of making money but I was surprised at the actual mark up from their cost to retail customer sales. Usually over 500%.

I have applied for an IKEA discount card too so even cheaper methinks.
