Australian trained podiatrist looking for work in Canada

Hi,

Just throwing a line out there regarding work in Canada. I understand the policy differences between provinces within Canada but am just curious as to whether there is any work available for a Australian trained podiatrist. I am under 30 and looking for work under the 1 year working visa. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tegan,

As an Australian trained podiatrist living in Toronto at present I can tell you what I know about the Ontario system. I am currently a Registered Chiropodist here.

You will need to be registered as a Chiropodist with COCOO (College of Chiropodists of Ontario) www.cocoo.on.ca before you can start working in this province. The registration exams are held once a year; usually the end of spring (around May/June). Paperwork to apply to sit registration exams should be submitted sooner rather than later, maybe 5-6 months earlier if possible, to ensure it's approved in time. Once exams are sat, it can take a month or so for results to come through, then you can register and start working.

With some forward planning it would definitely be possible to work in this province. Hope that's some help

I graduated with a Uk podiatry degree this summer and will be in my new clinic in Nova Scotia in less than three weeks.

My employer had to obtain an Labour Market Opinion form: this came back positive. I then got a police check $40 and medical £300 and then applied for my visa. This actually came through really fast. I have also applied for membership of the NSPA AND Canbadian federation. Any more question please feel free to ask me!
